The round tables, held in Sydney and Melbourne on 18th and 20th of January respectively, featured a peer-to-peer presentation bringing together senior executives and digital learning specialists of Australian universities with guest speakers Dr Tom Leighton (CEO and Founder, Akamai), Dr Hugh Bradlow (Chief Scientist, Telstra) and Dr Sharon Winocur (Executive Director, BHERT).
Dr Tom Leighton co-founded Akamai, a global leader in Content Delivery Network services and identified by Forbes as one of the best performing Cloud Service companies. Akamai carries 30 per cent of total global web traffic and is the 11th largest software company in the world. Customers include global and local brands such as Airbnb, Qantas, SBS, Domain, Tourism Australia, 3P Learning and Deakin University.
Dr Leighton presented on the grand challenges the Internet faces today and the role that the higher education sector can play in fostering innovation and fuelling the digital economy. He addressed –
